What Is Multi-Directional Speed and Why Does It Matter at This Age?
Speed development at this age goes well beyond just running in a straight line. This program is built on movement literacy across every directional vector — forward, lateral, diagonal, and transitional. Rather than chasing a single "perfect" linear mechanic, we expose athletes to a wide variety of movement puzzles. This builds the coordination and adaptability they need to stay explosive even when a play gets messy or the field gets chaotic.
We focus on developing the capacity to express maximal speed by teaching athletes how to project force into the ground at optimal angles.
The age range of 11 to 13 represents one of the most consequential windows in an athlete's journey. Often called the "Golden Age of Motor Learning," this stage is characterized by rapid neuromuscular development and an extraordinary capacity to acquire complex skills. Our programming is designed to capitalize on this high-leverage window by prioritizing high-energy engagement over rigid, repetitive drills.
How the program is structured
This program is built on the idea that real development comes from the right constraints. Athletes are placed in environments that challenge them to make quick decisions and adapt their movements, allowing speed to emerge naturally through play rather than being forced.
We blend targeted guidance with game-like challenges to help athletes express speed. Athletes learn how to strike the ground, produce force at the right angles, and move with intent, while the constraints built into the games develop decision-making, coordination, and confidence. They are constantly exposed to new movement problems—accelerating, stopping, changing direction, and reacting under pressure—so they learn how to apply their speed, not just display it.
This program is designed for athletes aged 11 to 13, often referred to as the Golden Age of Motor Learning. At this stage, athletes have a unique ability to absorb new skills, develop coordination, and build movement patterns that carry long term. The more quality movement experiences they get during this window, the more it sets them up for success in sport.
Whether they are continuing from an introductory program or stepping into structured training for the first time, this is where athletes build the foundation to move with confidence, adapt under pressure, and turn their speed into real, usable performance.
